2018: a record year!
In 2018 FNL awarded over 50 grants to a total value of just under £300,000 - the highest in any year since FNL was founded in 1931.

Among the awards was the second largest grant ever awarded by FNL, which helped The Ruskin - Library Museum and Research Centre to acquire the extraordinary Whitehouse Ruskin Collection. We also assisted The Ruskin in the final stages of their fundraising campaign, securing an extra £281,000 from two other generous funders: The Garfield Weston Foundation and the Aldama Foundation.
Among the acquisitions made thanks to FNL's support in 2018 were:
- British Library: Granville Archive
- Royal Botanic Gardens Edinburgh: Tracts Coal and Nursery (1765-1784);
- Lambeth Palace Library: Archbishop Morton's copy of Quintillian, Institutiones oratoriae;
- National Library of Wales, Gloucestershire Archives, Gloucestershire University and the Petersfield Museum: papers and letters from the collection of Jack Haines (1875-1960)
- Seven Stories: the National Centre for Childrens’ Books: the archive of David Almond (b.1951);
- Canterbury Cathedral Archives and Library: the Lyghfield Bible (13th century);
- Brotherton Library the papers of Sir Herbert Read (1863-1968);
- University of Nottingham: the Ada Clarke Collection 1875-1997.
